Senior/Intergenerational Creative and Performing Arts Programs
After spending a lifetime it seems in the performing arts working with all ages and abilities I found myself teaching a program for seniors with memory loss in a day center. You see my Mother, Rose, had dementia and while her love for the arts never left her this was a way I could bring something to a community of her friends she visited with during her visits at the day center. I began bringing song, dance, theater games, improvisation, creative storytelling and comedy to the individuals each week and saw how engaged they were and saw the joy on their faces when it was time for our program to begin.
I have created a program that will spark interest, imagination and creativity for seniors. through the use of Theater Techniques including improvisation we engage seniors in the art of storytelling and even act out their stories and create a play with costumes and props.
I have gone on to receive more training and am now a Certified Dementia Communication Specialist from the Silver Dawn Training Institute
Current/Past Participants include : Prairie Adult Care, Ebeneezer Ridges of Burnsville, Redeemer South Minneapolis, Sholom Senior Facilities Roitenberg, Menorah Plaza and Ackerberg.
Inner City Youth Creative/Performing Arts (at risk)
Our newest program will be available Fall of 2018. The Creative/Performing Arts Programs will include many facets of the arts and engage and introduce the arts to individuals who otherwise would not have this opportunity. We will be working hand in hand with communities needing an arts focused group to engage with their youth.
Programs such as drama, dance, art, storytelling, script writing, etc. will be introduced to groups. Included in these programs will be a focus on preventing bullying, building self-esteem and confidence, job interview skills and team building.
